Taproots may aid in stabilizing the larger columnar cacti.Climbing, creeping and epiphytic cacti may have only adventitious roots, produced along the stems where these come into contact with a rooting medium. It has many interesting names like Peacock Plant, Zebra Plant, Rattlesnake Plant, Prayer Plant, herringbone plant etc but commonly still called as Calathea. In this video you will learn many varieties or species and also how to grow calathea properly and how to take care of calathea plants. Calathea is a genus of plants belonging to the Marantaceae family. There are several dozen species in this genus. Native to the tropical Americas, many of the species are popular as pot plants due to their decorative leaves and, in some species, colorful inflorescences. Few common species are: Calathea lancifolia (Rattle snake plant): It is an evergreen perennial, growing to 60–75 cm, with slender pale green leaves beautifully marked with various shades of green, wavy edges that magnify those shades, and green spots that resemble small leaves. Even their undersides are awesome looking, being with a reddish-purple shade. Calathea ornata (also called variously striped, pin-stripe, or pin-stripe calathea): The plant is known for its large leaves that have a distinctive pattern and effervescent colors. The leaf of the Pin-Stripe Calathea grows at the end of long stems that require the right care and location in order to continue looking as healthy as possible. If kept indoors the plant will not grow much larger than 2ft wide or 2ft tall. This is a plant that looks attractive indoors but it is also possible to keep outdoors under indirect sunlight. Due to its foliage, this is a superb plant to put among other plants that have large attractive foliage. Calathea zebrina (zebra plant) is also an evergreen perennial can grow upto 1 m (3 ft 3 in). The long stalks carry beautiful striped elliptical leaves. The leaves are dark green above, dark red below, the spines, veins and margins etched in lime green. Now will quickly run through the identification of few calathea species with some pictures and then talk about How to take care of these plants. Now coming to the Care of Calathea plants: Light: No direct sunlight for Calathea's otherwise you will lose the markings. You need to provide shielding from the direct sunlight which will come overhead at some point of the day at these spots. Watering: Calathea plant demands to be moist at all times, but not always wet or water sitting in the pot at all times. This means regular small amounts of water during the growing seasons as soon as the surface starts to dry up. Humidity: humidity is really important to for a healthy and attractive looking Calathea. They all require high humidity and failure to provide this is one of the main causes of failure. You can also build your own humidity tray to provide the effect. Fertlizer: Drop few NPK cyrstals like NPK 20 20 20, every fortnight during the growing season or some vermicompost every fort night. Decomposed cowdung is also an alternative. Repotting : If growing well, look to repot every year or every other year during Spring or Summer. If you want to propagate your Calathea you can do this at repotting time. Its actually done by dividing large calatheas. Divide the plant by half (or into smaller pieces if you have a very large plant to start with) and pot each new section into it's own pot. – I shall make a separate video on repotting and propagation of calathea when I do it later. One more thing regarding Calathea is Cleaning their leaves with a moist cloth if they become too dusty. And coming to Flowering of calatheae: The majority of Calathea's do not flower, or rather they do not flower indoors and this is because the conditions aren't suitable for them to do so. The exception to this is Calathea crocata. Crassula are a large group of succulents, this is a genus with a lot of variety to offer the collector and gardener alike. Many make great indoor plants, while others can be used in landscaping. Many are easy to propagate and most are easy care. All varieties require a well drained soil, the amount of sun required will vary depending on variety. Generally, the more sun and less moisture, the more colour Crassula will put on in spring through summer. Flowers vary greatly in both size and colour. Today we visit Succulents Australia to look at just a few of the varieties they have available. Crassula ovata is by far the best known species, it is commonly known as the Jade plant or Money plant, with in the genus we have larger species such as Crassula perfoliata, as well as low growing types such as Crassula namaquensis. C.hirta is a low growing species, also known as C. nudicaulis. Long, fleshy leaves that are covered by fine white hairs. C..muscosa is a small branching succulent sometimes called the 'WatchChain'. C. 'Baby Necklace' and this is a hybrid between C. perforata and C. rupestris var marnieriana and here is Crassula perforate itself. C. quadrangularis syn. Crassula pyramidalis is a very slow growing, species, its natural growth habit is to form a square column. C.Morgan's Beaty is compact growing and has large red to pink flowers, again this is hybrid, this time between C. falcata and C. mesembryanthemopsis. C. socialis is a small growing species, it has small white flowers in spring. Crassula Forward is unusual in that its spring flowers are yellow. C. perfoliata var minor of sometimes called the aeroplane plant and when you look at the growth habit, you can see why, previously know as C. falcata. And here we have it in its variegated form, an here is a dwarf or miniature variety. C.rubicualis is a larger species, it has great colour at the moment, thats because it has had a bit more sum, and has been allowed to dry out a little, most crassula will put on more colour in sunny dry conditions. C. barklyi is commonly called the Rattlesnake Plant. C. 'Celia' is a miniature hybrid, small white flowers appear early in spring. C. exilis ssp. cooperi has brilliant patterned foliage here is C. hemisphaerica is a wonderful form, very rare in cultivation. C.Ivory pagoda is a hybrid, slow growing and a C. flacata C. perfoliate cross. C. deceptor is an attractive dwarf species with overlapping foliage. C. green pagoda will reach around 20 cm or 8 inches in height, and is one of a number of ‘stacked’ Crassula. For more information, visit the web site, or contact Succulents Australia directly.

Todays topic is on Dragon Tree - Dracaena plants Species and Some of its common Varieties like Deacaena Marginata, Reflexa – song of india and song of Jamaica plant, and General Care and Tips on Growing Dracaena trees indoors for home Gardening. Dracaena derived from the greek word– drakaina, meaning "female dragon", is a genus of over 100 species of trees and shrubs in the family Dracaenaceae. The majority of the species are native to Africa, with a few in south Asia, northern Australia and few species in tropical Central America. Species of Dracaena have a secondary thickening meristem in their trunk, which is characteristic feature of these plants and is termed dracaenoid thickening by some authors. All Dracaena plants are very attractive plants grown at homes and offices in pots and also in ground. There are over 100 species, which are different in forms and sizes. However, only the types of dracaena which grow between 2 and 10 feet are popular with home gardeners. They include Dracaena marginata, Dracaena fragrans, Dracaena Reflexa (Song of India), Dracaena cinnabari, Dracaena sanderiana, Dracaena deremensis and Dracaena draco. Dracaena Marginata is sometimes called the Madagascar dragon-tree or red-edged flower, Ribbon Tree, Rainbow Tree and so on. The marginata is probably the most versatile of all the Dracaenas. Some confuse this houseplant with a palm tree. This plant has leaves with red to purple stripes running along the edge and they really look beautiful. This Purplish-Red striped foliage and canes (canes are their stems and branches) are special features of these plants. In my Next Dracaena Video series, please watch How to grow them from cuttings and also How I tried to revive Dracena Reflexa (the song of India) plant kept indoors. Dracaena Reflexa which is another popular ornamental plant, both in the landscape and the home. Several Varieties are seen in this group, particularly variegated ones with cream and yellow-green margins – that’s called The 'Tricolor' or three-coloured Madagascar dragon tree and Dracaena Variegata (variegated Song of India) . It performs well as a houseplant, tolerating infrequent waterings. It prefers bright, filtered light, without direct sun exposure, restricted outdoors to zones 10–11. It can be propagated via stem cuttings. This another Dracaena Reflexa type – is known as Song of Jamaica, while the previous tri-color is known as song of India. Few Important Tips on Dracaena Care (common to all species) • Light: this plant is quite tolerant to a wide range of light conditions. It grows best in bright and indirect light. Low light can be handled pretty fine as well, but the plant will grow much slower. • Temperature: it should always be kept warm, regardless of the season in your place. When the temperature falls below 65°F, the plant will not grow. Sometimes, it even dies. • Humidity: if the surrounding humidity is high, the plant grows well. The humidity can be even increased with the help of pebbles placed below the plant – or by making your own humidity tray. • Fertilizers: In summer, usually not required and at other times just use NPK crystals that’s NPK 20 20 20 fertlizer every fortnight. You can watch the NPK video by searching NPK crystals in youtube search. I have shown you how many crystals to add for different pot sizes. One more last thing is: Why Do Dracaena Leaves Die? Too commong problem - Plant’s leaves start turning brown from the tip, and then the entire leaf becomes brown and dies. Pruning dead leaves away, won’t solve the problem. Think of the reasons that led to such results. One of the commonest ones is that leaves were underwatered or overwatered. Always use well-drained soil to avoid problems in the future. Besides, it is important to make sure that the pot is well-drained too. Also do not keep in a dark place if you are keeping it indoors. I have faced this problem and in my next videos, will show you this problem and what I exactly did to solve this problem. ENGLISH: Aquascaping Lab by Tommaso Perini and Serena Sacchi, present a video fact info techincal sheet on Anubias Plant and all variety ( (Anubias Gigantea, Anubias Barteri, Anubias Coffefolia, Anubias Congensis, Anubias Gracilis, Anubias Longifolia, Anubias Nana petit, Round Leaf, Marina, Anubias Bonsai). It comes from the Araceae family and comes from Africa, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Congo. They exist in various sizes and different varieties. They are epiphytes and therefore possess a rhizome from which extend the stems and roots that have the particularity of attaching themselves to furniture such as woods or stones, so be careful not to bury the rhizome because it may rot, we can only plant the roots. Depending on the species and the proportion of the tank they can be used both as second-floor plants and as plants foreground since their growth will be slow and will remain at the level of when purchased, remember to place them in shaded areas as they are subject to algae formation if exposed to direct light. It is not easily eaten by phytophagous fish, so it is also compatible with African cichlids such as Pelvicacrhomis or Goldfish, and Discus. They are also very resistant to high temperatures above 26 ° Celsius. If we want to multiply the plant, we must cut the rhizome taking into account that the removed part must have at least 3/4 leaves so that it can start again and continue to grow. Sexual reproduction occurs only if the flower is produced and emerges from the water for pollination, but in home aquariums it is quite difficult. The Anubias are generally very easy to handle plants because they do not need strong fertilization either dissolved in water, or on the ground by fertile soils, besides it does not need strong lighting or Co2 carbon dioxide supplement to be able to grow up. It will therefore be necessary to provide liquid fertilizer in a moderate and constant manner, generally consisting of a base of bivalent chelated and manganese iron to avoid the appearance of yellow spots on the leaves (chlorosis). **Exotic Cactus Collection**Varieties Of Cactus**Cactus Collection Library** A cactus is a member of the plant family Cactaceae, a family comprising about 127 genera with some 1750 known species of the order Caryophyllales. Most ground-living cacti have only fine roots, which spread out around the base of the plant for varying distances, close to the surface. Some cacti have taproots; in genera such as Copiapoa, these are considerably larger and of a greater volume than the body. Taproots may aid in stabilizing the larger columnar cacti.Climbing, creeping and epiphytic cacti may have only adventitious roots, produced along the stems where these come into contact with a rooting medium. Like their spines, cactus flowers are variable. Typically, the ovary is surrounded by material derived from stem or receptacle tissue, forming a structure called a pericarpel. Tissue derived from the petals and sepals continues the pericarpel, forming a composite tube—the whole may be called a floral tube, although strictly speaking only the part furthest from the base is floral in origin. The outside of the tubular structure often has areoles that produce wool and spines. Cacti show a wide variety of growth habits, which are difficult to divide into clear, simple categories. They can be tree-like (arborescent), meaning they typically have a single more-or-less woody trunk topped by several to many branches. In the genus Pereskia, the branches are covered with leaves, so the species of this genus may not be recognized as cacti. In most other cacti, the branches are more typically cactus-like, bare of leaves and bark, and covered with spines, as in Pachycereus pringlei or the larger opuntias. Some cacti may become tree-sized but without branches, such as larger specimens of Echinocactus platyacanthus. Cacti may also be described as shrubby, with several stems coming from the ground or from branches very low down, such as in Stenocereus thurberi. **Exotic Cactus Collection**Varieties Of Cactus**Cactus Collection Library** -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Papaya Tree Planting in Bangladesh // Papaya Garden //How to Plant a Papaya Tree" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PyR3g97hYw -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-
